Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a phone conversation with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Friday, focusing on strengthening the strategic partnership between the two nations. The leaders reviewed bilateral progress and agreed to enhance cooperation in key sectors like defence production, trade, and critical minerals.

“Spoke with President @LulaOficial and conveyed greetings on his return to office. We discussed ways to further deepen our bilateral ties, especially in areas of defence production, trade and critical minerals. We also exchanged views on various regional and multilateral issues of mutual interest, including the G20, BRICS and the UN,” Modi said in a tweet.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), both leaders expressed satisfaction with the ongoing cooperation across diverse areas. They specifically explored ways to bolster the strategic partnership, with a focus on defence production, trade, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, bio-fuels, and critical minerals.
The dialogue also covered pressing regional and global challenges. The PMO noted the leaders discussed the current “tense” global situation and agreed to maintain close coordination to address these shared challenges.
Prime Minister Modi congratulated President Lula on Brazil’s recent assumption of the presidency of the G20 and the Mercosur trading bloc. The PMO concluded by stating that the two leaders agreed to remain in touch for continued dialogue.
