Instagram Expands AI Dubbing to 5 Major Indian Languages
Meta has launched new AI-powered dubbing and translation tools for Instagram Reels, now supporting Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Kannada, and Tamil. This expansion enables creators to reach wider regional audiences while preserving their original voice and lip-sync accuracy.
Key Updates
- AI dubbing now supports 5 new Indian languages
- Voice cloning maintains creator’s vocal identity across translations
- New regional fonts for Devanagari and Bengali-Assamese scripts
- Translated Reels labeled with “Translated with Meta AI” tag
Enhanced Language Accessibility
Previously limited to English, Spanish, Hindi, and Portuguese, Instagram’s AI dubbing system now translates audio while synchronizing speech with original lip movements. The advanced voice cloning technology ensures creators sound like themselves in all supported languages.
For transparency, all AI-dubbed Reels will display a “Translated with Meta AI” label. Viewers can disable translations or revert to original audio through settings.
Regional Font Support in Edits App
The Edits app will soon introduce fonts supporting Indian writing scripts like Devanagari and Bengali-Assamese on Android. This allows creators to style captions and text overlays in their native languages, maintaining authentic visual communication.
The platform will automatically localize font options based on device language settings, complementing the existing library of over 50 fonts.
Expanding Regional Content Reach
These tools address India’s diverse linguistic landscape, enabling creators to share entertainment, educational content, and stories with non-English and non-Hindi speaking audiences. The technology provides a more natural viewing experience compared to traditional subtitles.
Meta’s investment reflects the growing demand for regional language content in India, where language diversity significantly influences online engagement and connection.
