OpenAI Offers Free Year of ChatGPT Go to Indian Users
OpenAI has announced a major free access program for Indian users, offering a full year of its enhanced ‘ChatGPT Go’ service starting November 4. This initiative targets India, which the company identifies as its second-largest market globally after the United States.
Key Details of the Offer
- Free Access: Indian users who sign up during a limited period get one year of ChatGPT Go for free.
- Start Date: The offer becomes active on November 4.
- Eligibility: Available to both new users and existing ChatGPT Go subscribers, who will receive an additional 12-month plan.
What is ChatGPT Go?
While the regular ChatGPT generates text based on user instructions, the Go version provides enhanced features. These include increased usage limits, improved image generation capabilities, file upload support, and access to a more advanced large language model (LLM) with better memory of previous conversations.
India’s Strategic Importance
OpenAI sees India as a critical growth market. According to Appfigures data reviewed by TechCrunch, the ChatGPT app witnessed over 29 million downloads in India during the 90 days leading up to August. However, it generated only $3.6 million in in-app purchases during that period.
The number of paid subscribers in India doubled in the first month following ChatGPT’s launch in the country.
“Since initially launching ChatGPT Go in India a few months ago, the adoption and creativity we’ve seen from our users has been inspiring,” said Nick Turley, Vice President and Head of ChatGPT, in a statement to PTI.
The company is implementing specific marketing strategies to expand its presence in the region.
