Oura smart ring introduces two new features to help women track hormonal health

Oura’s smart ring entered India just a few weeks ago, and now the company is already expanding what it can do. Building on its existing health tracking features, the brand is introducing two new updates that aim to make hormonal changes easier to understand and measurable for women. The company has announced Hormonal Birth Control support and Menopause Insights, both of which will begin rolling out globally from May 6 for Oura Ring Gen3 and Oura Ring 4 users.

According to the company, with these features it is aiming to combine real-time biometric data with hormonal context to offer clearer, more personalised insights. “When more than half of women in their reproductive years are using contraception and more than a billion women are moving through perimenopause and menopause, asking them to rely on trial and error, vague reassurance, or generic symptom trackers simply isn’t good enough,” said Holly Shelton, chief product officer at Oura. “By connecting hormonal context to the biometric data Oura tracks, we’re giving women visibility, language, and evidence they’ve never had at this scale.”

So, let’s take a quick look at how these features work and how they could actually be useful.

Starting with the first feature, Hormonal Birth Control support builds on Oura’s existing Cycle Insights tool but takes things a step further. Users can now log their contraception method, from pills and patches to IUDs and implants, choosing from over 20 combinations. The app also connects this information with daily biometric data. For instance, it can show how hormonal contraception may be affecting body temperature, sleep patterns, and recovery levels. Over time, this creates a clearer picture of what’s “normal” for your body and what might be unusual. Instead of just tracking symptoms, the feature helps you understand why those changes might be happening.

The second feature, Menopause Insights, is built around something called the Menopause Impact Scale. According to the company this tool asks users structured questions across 22 areas, including sleep, mood, cognition, and daily functioning, to understand how menopause symptoms are affecting their lives. Based on this, the app generates a personalised dashboard that breaks down symptom impact and shows how it evolves over time.

Notably, the feature connects subjective experiences with objective data. So, if you’re feeling more fatigued or noticing sleep disruptions, the app can show how those changes align with your biometric trends. Over time, users can track whether lifestyle changes or interventions are actually helping. The feature also allows reports to be saved and shared with doctors, making it easier to have more informed conversations around treatment.

Together, these additions build on Oura’s existing women’s health tools like Cycle Insights, Fertile Window tracking, and Pregnancy Insights, along with its AI model designed specifically for interpreting women’s health data.

As for the device itself, the Oura Ring is a compact wearable designed to track over 50 health metrics, including sleep, activity, readiness, and heart health. Unlike a smartwatch, it has no display and instead works through a companion app, offering a more minimal and less intrusive experience. It uses multiple sensors and signal pathways to deliver personalised insights based on your body’s data.
