OnePlus 16 details leak before launch, 200MP camera and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro expected

OnePlus 16 is expected to launch in China in October, with a global rollout in November. Speculations about the device surfacing on the internet from time to time. It is said to have thinner bezels than its predecessor, the OnePlus 15, which was launched last year. Now, a fresh leak has revealed details about its camera.

In a post on Weibo, tipster Smart Pikachu claimed that the OnePlus 16 will feature a 200-megapixel rear camera. The sensor is likely to be Samsung’s HP5, which has previously been used in a Realme smartphone.

Along with a 200-megapixel camera, earlier leaks suggest that the OnePlus 16 may carry a 50-megapixel primary camera and a 2-megapixel multispectral sensor.

OnePlus 16 expected design, specs and features

Design-wise, the OnePlus 16 is rumoured to feature ultra-thin bezels, with a thickness reportedly under 1mm on the front. For comparison, its predecessor, the OnePlus 15, had 1.15mm bezels.

The smartphone is expected to sport a 1.5K display with a refresh rate of up to 200Hz, which would mark a notable upgrade over its predecessor’s 165Hz display, if true. On the performance front, it is tipped to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset, built on a 2nm process and paired with LPDDR6 RAM. For security, the device may include an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and is likely to run on Android 17-based OxygenOS 17.

Battery life could be a major highlight of the OnePlus 16. According to tipster Old Chen Air, the device may feature a next-generation “Glacier Battery” with a capacity approaching 9,000mAh. If accurate, this would mark a significant jump from the 7,300mAh unit used in its predecessor.

The OnePlus 16 is said to skip a built-in active cooling fan for thermal management. Additionally, the smartphone is also expected to skip capacitive shoulder triggers for gaming.

The OnePlus 16 is expected to be priced at around CNY 5,000 (approximately Rs 67,600), indicating a slight increase over its predecessors. The price increase could be attributed to the ongoing shortage of memory chips.

OnePlus has not officially confirmed any details yet. This information is based on speculation, so readers are advised to take it with a pinch of salt.
