Iran delegation lands in Pakistan, says talks start only if US meets preconditions

An Iranian negotiating delegation led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf arrived in Islamabad on Friday for peace talks with the United States, Iranian media reported, signaling the start of a critical diplomatic phase in efforts to end the conflict.

“An Iranian negotiating delegation led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf arrived in Islamabad on Friday for peace talks with the United States,” Iranian media said, adding that negotiations would proceed only if Washington accepted Tehran’s “preconditions.”

The delegation includes senior political, military and economic officials, including Iranian foreign minister, defence council secretary, central bank governor and several members of parliament.

The arrival in Islamabad comes ahead of expected face-to-face discussions between Iranian and US officials, with Pakistan hosting the high-stakes meeting at a time of fragile ceasefire conditions and lingering mistrust between the two sides.

Tehran has repeatedly stressed that certain steps must be met before formal negotiations begin, including issues tied to regional security and economic restrictions, reflecting a firm negotiating posture even as it engages in dialogue.
