UP board mandates NCERT and authorised books for Classes 9 to 12 in 2026-27

The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad has issued a stringent directive for the 2026–27 academic session, mandating that all schools across the state use only authorised textbooks for teaching.

As per the order, the use of unauthorised or non-recognised books will invite strict action. The directive has been issued under the provisions of the Intermediate Education Act, making compliance compulsory for all government, aided, and private schools.

MANDATORY NCERT BOOKS FOR KEY CLASSES

The board has made it compulsory for students of Classes 9 and 10 to study from authorised textbooks in core subjects such as English, Mathematics, and Science.

For Classes 11 and 12, a total of 36 subjects will follow prescribed books.

In a major push towards standardisation, around 70 textbooks from the National Council of Educational Research and Training have been brought into circulation across the state.

Additionally, 12 selected books in Hindi, Sanskrit, and Urdu have also been included in the approved list.

AWARENESS DRIVES AND AFFORDABLE ACCESS PLANNED

To ensure smooth implementation, schools will organise book awareness camps aimed at informing students and parents about the list of authorised textbooks.

Authorities have also assured that these books will be made available at affordable prices to reduce the financial burden on families.

Further, three agencies have been authorised for the printing and distribution of textbooks, ensuring a streamlined supply chain.

STRICT MONITORING ACROSS DISTRICTS

District and divisional officials have been directed to closely monitor compliance with the order. The board has made it clear that any deviation from the prescribed norms will not be tolerated.

With this move, the UP Board aims to bring uniformity and transparency in the education system, reinforcing its message that only approved and standardised learning materials will be promoted going forward.
