Xiaomi launched its camera-focused flagship, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, last month, featuring a triple rear camera setup, including a 200-megapixel Leica telephoto lens. Now, rumours suggest that the company could introduce what may be one of the most powerful smartphone cameras of 2026, sometime after June. The Chinese tech giant is also expected to bring several technological upgrades with its upcoming lineup.
According to tipster Kartikey Singh (@That_Kartikey on X), Xiaomi is preparing to unveil multiple new products featuring cutting-edge technologies sometime after June. Among these, the company is expected to introduce a modular optical smartphone — a concept that could be the first of its kind globally. Such a system could allow users to attach or detach different optical components, similar to a DSLR setup.
The leak points out that Xiaomi could introduce a new flagship powered by its in-house chipset, possibly the upcoming XRING O2. Developing a custom chip has long been a strategic goal for the company. Notably, the XRING O2 is expected to be Xiaomi’s second 3nm flagship processor.
Xiaomi is also reportedly working on its most ambitious smartphone yet, which is expected to feature a self-developed chipset, software, and an integrated AI system. Alongside a fully modular optical setup and in-house technologies, this device is being billed as potentially the most powerful smartphone camera of 2026 by the tipster.
For context, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is priced in India at Rs 1,39,999. It features a powerful Leica-tuned triple rear camera setup, including a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto lens, and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera, along with a 50-megapixel front camera. The device is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, paired with up to 16GB RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. It sports a 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and 3,500 nits peak brightness. The smartphone packs a 6,000mAh battery with fast wired and wireless charging support. It runs on Android 16-based HyperOS 3 and comes with IP68/IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance.
