Apple is gearing up to host its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026 on June 8. Unlike its product-focused events, like the recent one where the company introduced the iPhone 17e, MacBook Neo and iPad Air updates among other devices, WWDC is going to centre largely on software updates. At the event, Apple is likely to unveil the latest versions of its operating systems, including iOS, macOS, and iPadOS. Held annually, WWDC serves as the company’s platform to showcase upcoming software innovations. This year, Apple may also outline its broader strategy in the field of AI, particularly around Apple Intelligence.
Apple could unveil AI Siri chatbot at WWDC 2026
While global tech trends are increasingly being shaped by artificial intelligence—with companies like OpenAI and Google taking the lead—Apple appears to be left behind in the AI race. At WWDC, the company could introduce its own AI-powered chatbot, potentially as a Siri chatbot. Earlier reports have suggested that Apple is working to transform Siri into a conversational assistant similar to Claude and ChatGPT. There are also indications that the company may leverage Google’s Gemini as a foundation for its next-generation AI models. This revamped version of Siri is expected to debut with a future update, possibly alongside iOS 27.
What else could Apple unveil at WWDC 2026
At last year’s WWDC, Apple introduced iOS 26, bringing the new Liquid Glass design. This year, the company is expected to unveil iOS 27 for iPhones and macOS 27 for Macs. iOS 27 is said to focus on performance improvements, while macOS 27 is rumoured to support only Apple Silicon devices (M1 or newer), effectively marking the end of support for Intel-based Macs. That said, Rosetta 2 support is expected to continue, allowing Intel-based apps to run on Apple Silicon systems. Additionally, macOS 27 may drop support for Apple’s Time Capsule hardware, including AirPort Disks that were previously used for Time Machine backups.
Due to limited capacity, Apple is selecting attendees for the June 8 WWDC 2026 event at Apple Park through a lottery system. Eligible applicants will attend a full-day event that begins with the keynote, followed by the Platforms State of the Union, Apple Park tours, and dinner. Attendees will also have the opportunity to interact with Apple engineers and experts.
