Adani Ports crosses 500 MT cargo handling milestone, signals growth momentum

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. (APSEZ) crossed the landmark milestone of 500 million tonnes of cargo handled, the firm announced on Wednesday.

With this, APSEZ – which is India’s largest integrated transport utility and among the nation’s leading port developers and operators – also highlighted its goal of reaching 1 billion tonnes of cargo handling by 2030.

Speaking on the milestone, Gautam Adani, chairman of Adani Group, said ports are “not merely gateways for trade, they are gateways to national confidence, competitiveness and destiny.” In a statement, the firm said it was a “defining moment” which showcased India’s “infrastructure-led transformation.”

Adani thanked the company’s customers, partners, and “every member of the APSEZ family whose dedication and belief have made this milestone possible.” He further appreciated the “central and state governments”, saying their policies and “commitment to infrastructure” had helped create the foundation of APSEZ.

““APSEZ crossing 500 million tonnes is a signal of our decades-long confidence in the India growth story. Over the years, we have built not just ports, but an unparalleled interconnected transport and logistics platform spanning ports, rail, roads, trucking, warehouses, and cargo gateways. APSEZ’s best is ahead of us,” Adani added.

APSEZ started operating from with a “single-port vision” in 1998, the company said in its statement, adding that its network now includes 19 ports and terminals across India and other countries. The company said it had taken 16 years to reach its first 100 million tonnes of cargo handling. “…Each subsequent 100 million tonnes has been added faster than the last, reflecting the increasing scale, efficiency, resilience and strategic depth of its platform,” it added.

The operator has 15 ports across 11,000 km of the Indian coastline, and four international ports on the strategic East–West global corridor. It includes 12 multimodal logistics parks.
