US President Donald Trump is set to make a major announcement regarding the Iran war.
In a statement, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that President Trump will deliver a prime-time address to the nation at 9:00 p.m. ET (6:30 a.m. IST) on Thursday, April 2, 2026, to provide an important update on Iran.
“TUNE IN: Tomorrow night at 9PM ET, President Trump will give an Address to the Nation to provide an important update on Iran,” she said in a post on X.
Possibility number 1
With the announcement just hours away, speculation is running high about what Trump might declare. Building on his recent statements that the war could be over in “two or three weeks” and that the US would be leaving Iran “very soon,” one strong possibility is that he will officially announce a timeline for winding down major combat operations.
Possibility number 2
Trump could also use the speech to issue a firm final ultimatum on the US-proposed 15-point peace plan. Under the plan, Iran would be required to completely dismantle its nuclear program, end support for its regional proxies, and permanently reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He may warn Tehran that it has a short window to accept the terms or face “unprecedented” American strikes.
Possibility number 3
Alternatively, Trump might announce a sharp escalation of military operations under the banner of “Operation Epic Fury.” If negotiations remain stalled, he has already threatened to target Iran’s electric generating plants, oil wells, and the vital Kharg Island export terminal unless the Strait of Hormuz is reopened immediately.
Possibility number 4
Though the administration has so far relied primarily on airstrikes, Trump has not ruled out more drastic steps. He could signal plans to deploy ground troops or even reinstate a military draft to ensure the Iranian regime can never rebuild its capabilities.
Possibility number 5
Finally, with global oil prices surging because of the conflict, Trump is widely expected to address the economic fallout and outline America’s broader energy strategy. This could include tapping into US strategic oil reserves, providing naval escorts for tankers in the Persian Gulf, accessing Venezuelan oil supplies, or demanding that Gulf nations help cover the costs of the military campaign.
US-Iran war
The Israel-US vs Iran war, now in its 33rd day, began after US and Israeli forces launched surprise coordinated airstrikes on February 28. The conflict has triggered a global fuel crisis after Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz to enemy shipping.
US-Israel vs Iran war escalates?
Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Iran’s neighbour that did not take sides, is now considering assisting the US and Israel in their fight against Iran and helping reopen the Strait of Hormuz by force, according to a Wall Street Journal report citing Arab officials.
