Directed by Midhun Manuel Thomas, ‘Aadu 3’ takes a different narrative approach compared to its predecessors. The film blends fantasy, comedy, and time-travel elements.
‘Aadu 3: One Last Ride – Part 1’ continues its impressive run at the box office. Starring Jayasurya, the film has crossed the Rs 109 crore mark worldwide within 12 days of release.
Box office collection day 12 update
According to Sacnilk website, ‘Aadu 3’ has collected Rs 43. 01 crore in India net collections so far. Its India gross stands at Rs 49. 75 crore.
Reports from the same portal says that the film has grossed Rs 60.15 crore overseas. This takes the worldwide gross collection to Rs 109.90 crore by Day 12.
Jayasurya starrer collected Rs 1.45 crore on Day 9 (second Friday). It saw a jump on Day 10 (second Saturday) with Rs 2.28 crore. The upward trend continued on Day 11 (second Sunday) with Rs 2.65 crore.
Strong weekend growth
The second weekend numbers show a clear upward trend as the occupancy improved from 24 percent on Friday to 41 percent on Sunday.
The story follows Shaji Pappan and his gang as they deal with a chaotic plot involving a mystical Star Dust stone. The narrative also connects to a parallel storyline set in the 1750s.
In this timeline, the characters appear as historical counterparts, with Shaji Pappan as Padmanabha Thamburan.
The film features a strong ensemble cast led by Jayasurya. Returning actors include Saiju Kurup, Vinayakan, Renji Panicker, Vijay Babu, Sunny Wayne, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Bhagath Manuel, Indrans, Bijukuttan, Sudhi Koppa, and Harikrishnan. New additions like Alleya Bourne and Krishna Jeev also join the cast.
Critical reception
The film has received mixed reviews from critics. Our exclusive ETimes review noted, “The songs by Shaan Rahman and the background score by Dawn Vincent work well, and there are a few comic dialogues and moments—like the High Range Che Guevara reference—that make you laugh heartily. However, apart from these, there is little that stands out as worthy of a third installment in the franchise. The supposed comedy, unfortunately, feels forced in places, and there is little spontaneity or organic humor in the situations meant to be funny. The length of the film also feels unwarranted, given that this part serves more as a build-up than a film in itself. Even when evaluated through the lens of a spoof, it is not inventive enough. “
