IOS 26.4 arrives, brings keyboard fix that hassled users with mistyping

Apple has released iOS 26.4, and while it is not a massive update, it does bring a mix of useful new features along with a few small but important fixes. One of the biggest highlights this time is a keyboard improvement that finally addresses the mistyping issues many users had been complaining about. Alongside the fix, the update also focuses on improving everyday usability while expanding Apple Intelligence features such as Live Translation, Hold Assist, and new creative tools in Freeform.

One of the most noticeable changes in iOS 26.4 is the keyboard fix. Some users had reported that the keyboard would occasionally register the wrong letters or behave unpredictably while typing, which often led to frequent mistakes while messaging, searching, or writing notes. With this update, Apple says it has improved typing accuracy and responsiveness, which should make everyday use feel smoother and more reliable. It may not sound like a big feature, but for users who are dealing with constant typing errors, this fix will come as a welcome relief.

Apple has also expanded Live Translation in Messages, a feature powered by Apple Intelligence that automatically translates incoming texts into the user’s preferred language. With iOS 26.4, the feature now supports a wider range of languages and regional variants, including English for Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Ireland, India, and Singapore.

The company has also added support for Traditional Chinese (Hong Kong), French (Canada), Italian (Switzerland), German (Switzerland), Spanish (Mexico and the United States), Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, and Portuguese (Portugal). With more languages available, the feature becomes far more useful for people who regularly communicate across different countries and regions.

Another update comes to Hold Assist, a feature designed to make long customer-service calls a little less annoying. Hold Assist can detect when a live agent joins the call and alerts the user, so there is no need to keep listening to hold music. With iOS 26.4, the feature now supports more languages, including English for New Zealand, South Africa, and Ireland, Mandarin Chinese for Taiwan, Korean, and French for Canada. This means the feature is now available to more users around the world.

The iOS 26.4 update also introduces Ambient Music widgets, which can be added to the Home Screen or Today View. These widgets give quick access to playlists designed for different moods and activities, including Sleep, Chill, Productivity, and Wellbeing. Apple says users do not need an Apple Music subscription to use these playlists, which makes the feature available to everyone.

Apple has also added new creative tools by bringing Freeform into Apple Creator Studio. The update introduces a Content Hub with curated photos, graphics, and illustrations that users can use in their projects. On-device AI features such as Super Resolution allow images to be upscaled, while Auto Crop helps users find better compositions automatically. Apple also says users can generate high-quality images with different style options using generative models developed by OpenAI, giving more flexibility for creative work.

In the Health app, a new Sleep Highlight feature now shows how a user’s bedtime from the previous night compares with their average bedtime over the past two weeks. The idea is to help users better understand their sleep habits and maintain a more consistent routine.

Finally, iOS 26.4 adds eight new emoji across Apple platforms, including an orca, trombone, landslide, ballet dancer, and a distorted face, giving users a few more ways to express themselves in messages.

iOS 26.4 availability and how to download

iOS 26.4 is now rolling out to supported iPhone models, and users can download the update by going to Settings General Software Update.
