Claude AI may soon control your mobile phone, make calls and send messages on your behalf

Anthropic has recently released a new update to its AI assistant, Claude AI, allowing it to use your computer and apps to complete tasks. However, the AI company’s quest for automation and remote task management is not ending here. The AI company is now working on a new feature for Claude that would allow the AI assistant to make calls and execute tasks on your mobile device.

The feature, called Orbit, is currently under testing and was discovered by an X (formerly Twitter) user who goes by the username M1Astra. According to screenshots of the code shared by M1Astra, the Orbit feature could allow Claude to perform several tasks on a smartphone. These include creating or deleting calendar events, composing messages, making phone calls, presenting files, creating plans, taking over the browser, and more.

Although Claude can already execute phone calls autonomously, it currently requires additional tools. Once the Orbit feature is built in, Claude may be able to perform these tasks on a phone independently.

With Anthropic now having the capacity to control your computer and execute tasks, the phone-use capability could “close the loop.” Mobile triggers would complete the automation cycle, allowing the AI assistant to operate across both computers and smartphones.

Claude can already control your computer

Meanwhile, the newly rolled-out update in Claude allows the AI assistant to use your mouse, keyboard, and screen, and access apps on your behalf. Anthropic says this capability will allow Claude to complete work for you while you are away.

With this update, Claude can open applications, navigate browsers, fill spreadsheets, and manage other activities that are typically done on a computer.

This effectively turns Claude into more of a personal AI agent that can complete tasks for you, similar to tools like OpenClaw. According to Anthropic, users can give prompts to Claude remotely and step away. By the time they return, the AI may have already finished the assigned work.

Currently, this feature is restricted as a research preview for paid Claude Cowork and Claude Code users. The capability is only available on macOS for now. It also requires both the Claude Desktop and mobile apps to be updated and paired for full functionality.
