YouTube asks does this video look like AI slop, people say it is turning humans into training minions

YouTube is apparently asking some users to identify and label “AI slop” particularly low-quality videos, according to reports. After removing and banning several low-quality uploads, the video-sharing platform has started testing a new feedback feature that asks viewers to help identify videos that appear to be created using generative artificial intelligence, especially those considered low-quality or repetitive.

The move seems to be part of YouTube’s effort to deal with the growing volume of what many users online call “AI slop”. It’s a term for videos that are generated using AI, lack originality, are low quality and are produced with minimal human effort.

For now, this new review prompt to identify AI slop appears to be showing up for a limited number of users on YouTube app. Many netizens across social media platforms like Reddit and X noted that they have started seeing these prompts while watching videos.

According to users, YouTube is showing a new feedback banner that appears while a video is playing and asks viewers to rate how much the content feels like “low-quality AI” or “AI slop”. Users are given multiple options, ranging from “Not at all” to “Extremely”, depending on how strongly they feel the video looks machine-generated or lacking in creativity. The feedback form also asks viewers to consider whether the content appears repetitive, nonsensical, or automatically produced.

While YouTube has not yet published an official blog post explaining the experiment, users who have spotted the feature say the ratings could influence how often certain videos are recommended or whether they appear in feeds at all. The test suggests that the company may use viewer feedback to fine-tune its recommendation system, and some observers believe videos marked as low-quality AI content could see reduced visibility, demonetisation, or even removal if they repeatedly receive negative ratings.

Meanwhile, there is also chatter online that this feature could be linked to YouTube’s plans to use user input to train the next generation of video AI models from Google. Many users highlight how while the company has been trying to cut down on AI slop and low-quality uploads, it also introduced Veo 3 as one of its most capable video generation models. Because of this, some believe Google could be using user feedback to improve its video generation tools and make them more realistic in the future.

YouTube AI slop

At the same time, some users are also raising concerns that negative feedback on advanced AI-generated videos could lead to false flags or unfair penalties, even for creators who are using AI responsibly. YouTube has earlier made it clear that the company wants to balance AI innovation with safety and quality. According to CEO Neal Mohan the platform is focusing on responsible use of AI while continuing to support creators.
