‘No, I did not say that’: Tim Cook shuts down retirement buzz, says he cannot imagine life without Apple

Apple CEO Tim Cook has been rumoured to be wanting to retire for some time now. For weeks, reports have emerged that Cook may be planning to step down as the CEO of the Cupertino giant, after almost 15 years at the helm. But now, the Apple chief has decided to put the speculation to rest, asserting that he has no plans to retire.

Tim was asked if he was planning to vacate his role at Apple. He told ABC, “No, I didn’t say that. I haven’t said that. I love what I do deeply. Twenty-eight years ago, I walked into Apple, and I’ve loved every day of it since.”

Tim Cook can’t imagine a life without Apple

The Apple chief made it clear that not only does he enjoy leading the company, but cannot imagine a future without this role. Cook added, “I can’t imagine life without Apple.”

Tim added, “We’ve had ups and downs, but the people I work with are so amazing. They bring out the best in me. And hopefully, I can bring out the best in them.”

His comments come at a time when Apple has kicked off its 50th anniversary celebrations. Cook, who took the reins as CEO in 2011, has played a major role in shaping Apple in the past 15 years. Under his leadership, the company’s valuation has risen from $350 billion to over $4 trillion.

Earlier this year, reports emerged claiming that Cook wanted to reduce his workload at Apple. Apple’s head of hardware engineering, John Ternus, was believed to be the frontrunner to succeed Cook as CEO.

Apple begins 50th anniversary celebrations

Apple will turn 50 on April 1, 2026. To mark this occasion, Tim Cook has previously stated that the company has some big plans in store. The Cupertino giant began the celebrations at the Apple Grand Central store in New York City on Friday, with a performance by pop star Alicia Keys.

Cook shared an open letter on March 12, titled, “50 years of thinking different” – a reference to the iconic Think Different campaign, launched by the company in 1997 when Apple co-founder Steve Jobs returned to Cupertino.

Tim Cook wrote, “Fifty years ago in a small garage, a big idea was born. Apple was founded on the simple notion that technology should be personal, and that belief — radical at the time — changed everything.”
