Sensex ends 568 points higher, Nifty above 23,500; Eternal up 6%

Benchmark stock market indices closed higher for the second straight day led by a rally in auto and metal sector shares. Crude oil prices still weigh on investors but buying at lower levels helped market end in green.

The S&P BSE Sensex jumped 567.99 points to close at 76,070.84, while the NSE Nifty50 gained 172.35 points to end at 23,581.15.

After the closing bell, Eternal Ltd led the Sensex gainers, rising 5.58%. It was followed by Tata Steel Ltd, which gained 4.19%. Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd moved up 2.85%, while Bharat Electronics Ltd added 2.70%. Larsen and Toubro Ltd also ended higher, rising 2.20%.

Infosys Ltd saw the sharpest fall, dropping 1.29%. Bajaj Finance Ltd declined 1.23%, ITC Ltd slipped 1.10%, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd was down 0.60%, and HCL Technologies Ltd fell 0.55% at the close.

Volatility eased with India VIX falling 8.39%. In the broader market, Nifty Midcap 100 rose 1.02% and Nifty Smallcap 100 gained 0.65%.

Among sectoral indices, the losers were Nifty FMCG down 0.75% and Nifty IT down 0.97%. Most other sectors ended in the green.

Nifty Auto rose 2.11%, Nifty Financial Services 25/50 gained 0.98%, Nifty Media was up 1.11%, Nifty Metal climbed 2.82%, and Nifty Pharma added 0.22%. Nifty PSU Bank rose 0.33%, Nifty Private Bank gained 0.93%, and Nifty Realty was up 1.80%. Nifty Healthcare Index added 0.26%, Nifty Consumer Durables rose 0.72%, and Nifty Oil & Gas gained 0.17%.
