Panchayat’s Faisal Malik cast as Kumbhakaran in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana

Filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana continues to generate buzz around its casting. While earlier reports suggested that Bobby Deol would play Kumbhakaran, the latest update indicates otherwise.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, actor Faisal Malik, popularly known as Panchayat’s Prahlad Cha, has been cast as Kumbhakaran, the brother of Ravan, played by Yash. The actor has reportedly already wrapped up the first schedule of filming for the project, which is expected to hit cinemas this Diwali.

A source told the publication, “He joined Yash for the introductory Kumbhakaran scene at Prime Focus studio in Mumbai, shot with an international action crew. The sequences are heavy on graphics – similar to Avatar.”

The report further states that major action portions involving the character, which are part of the film’s second instalment, are yet to be shot. The source added that Malik’s physicality makes him a strong fit for the role. However, the makers have not officially confirmed the casting, and Malik declined to comment.

There is also speculation around Raghav Juyal being considered for the role of Meghnad, though this has not been confirmed either. The film’s first look was reportedly planned for Ram Navami at the Gateway of India but has been delayed due to the ongoing Middle East crisis. For now, the makers are keeping the cast details under wraps.

Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi in lead roles, alongside Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman. The ensemble cast also includes Arun Govil, Indira Krishnan, Lara Dutta, Sheeba Chaddha, Vivek Oberoi, and Kajal Aggarwal in pivotal roles.

Produced by Namit Malhotra, Ramayana features music by AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer. Tiwari has co-written the script with Shridhar Raghavan.
