IPhone 18 Pro Max launch soon: Leaked design, India price, battery, camera, release timeline and other details

Apple’s next flagship iPhones are still 5 months away from launch, but early leaks have already started hinting at what the company could bring with the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max in 2026. Reports circulating online suggest that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max may introduce visible changes to the front design, camera upgrades aimed at improving photography, and internal improvements that could boost performance and battery life. While none of these details has been confirmed by Apple, multiple reports in recent weeks appear to point toward a similar direction. For users wondering whether to upgrade to the next generation or hold on to their current devices for longer, the early leaks around the iPhone 18 Pro lineup offer some insight into what Apple might be working on.

Different design?

One of the biggest talking points around the upcoming models is the front design. Apple has used the pill-shaped cutout and Dynamic Island across several recent iPhone generations, but that approach could start changing with the iPhone 18 Pro series.

According to early renders and reports about prototype units, Apple may be working on shifting Face ID hardware beneath the display panel. If that technology is ready in time, the large cutout seen on current models could shrink significantly and leave only a small hole for the front-facing camera.

Some leaked images also indicate that the selfie camera might not remain centred. Instead, it could appear near the top-left side of the display, which would make the front layout look quite different compared to current iPhones.

iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max

Dynamic Island itself is unlikely to disappear completely. Instead, leaks suggest Apple may refine the feature so that it occupies less space and sits closer to the camera cutout. It is still expected to support functions like live activity alerts, navigation information and music controls, but in a form that feels less intrusive while using the phone.

The rear design may remain more familiar. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to continue with a triple-camera setup housed inside a raised camera module. However, small adjustments could be made to the finish of the back glass and how it transitions into the aluminium frame.

Reports also suggest Apple could test a few new colour finishes for the Pro lineup, including darker tones such as deep purple, burgundy and brown-inspired shades.

Camera system could see notable upgrades

The camera hardware may be one of the areas where Apple pushes harder with the iPhone 18 Pro lineup.

One leak points toward the possibility of a variable aperture mechanism on the main camera. Unlike the fixed aperture found on existing iPhones, a variable aperture system would allow the camera lens to adjust the amount of light entering the sensor.

This approach could help deliver more natural depth-of-field effects and improve image quality in low-light situations without relying entirely on software-based processing. Some reports suggest this feature may be limited to the iPhone 18 Pro Max rather than both Pro models.

Another upgrade being discussed is the introduction of a three-layer stacked image sensor that could be sourced from Samsung. This type of sensor design may improve readout speeds, reduce noise in images and offer better dynamic range.

Leaks also indicate that both the main and telephoto cameras may use larger apertures, which could help with night photography and video recording performance.

New chip and bigger battery expected

Internally, Apple is expected to introduce a new processor called the A20 Pro. The chip is believed to be manufactured using TSMC’s upcoming 2nm process.

Reports suggest Apple may adopt a new packaging method where RAM is placed directly on the same wafer as the CPU, GPU and Neural Engine. This tighter integration could allow the components to communicate faster while also improving power efficiency and heat management.

Early estimates indicate the chip could offer roughly a 15 per cent increase in performance and up to 30 per cent improvement in power efficiency compared to the previous generation. These gains may also help power more advanced Apple Intelligence features.

The internal redesign could free up additional space inside the phone’s chassis. Apple may use that extra room either for better cooling or for increasing battery capacity.

The iPhone 18 Pro Max is widely expected to receive a larger battery. Reports suggest the device could carry a battery of roughly 5,100mAh. To accommodate the larger battery, the phone may become slightly thicker and heavier, with its weight potentially exceeding 240 grams.

Possible connectivity upgrades

Connectivity improvements could also be part of the package. The iPhone 18 Pro Max is rumoured to feature Apple’s next-generation C2 modem. If these reports are accurate, the modem may bring back support for mmWave 5G within Apple’s in-house modem system. This could lead to improved network performance in areas where mmWave networks are available.

Display sizes likely to stay the same

Despite the possible design changes on the front, the overall screen sizes are expected to remain unchanged. The iPhone 18 Pro is tipped to continue with a 6.3-inch display, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max could retain a 6.9-inch screen. Most reports agree that even if Dynamic Island remains part of the design, the front of the phone may appear cleaner than before.

iPhone 18 Pro Max: Expected launch timeline and India price

Apple typically announces new iPhones in September, and the iPhone 18 Pro series is expected to follow the same timeline in 2026.

Pricing for India is still unclear at this stage. The current iPhone 17 Pro starts at Rs 1,34,900, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max begins at Rs 1,49,900. Because the prices of the iPhone 17 Pro series were increased by a few thousand rupees, Apple may choose to keep the next generation within a similar range rather than introducing a major increase.

However, final pricing will depend on factors such as component costs, memory prices and bigger supply chain conditions. Apple is unlikely to reveal official details until the launch event approaches, so the current information should be viewed as early expectations based on leaks rather than confirmed specifications.
