Sherrone Moore takes plea deal in Paige Shiver affair as wife Kelli Moore publicly stands by him

Sherrone Moore has reached a plea deal and it became the defining moment of a difficult legal chapter Friday, when the former Michigan Wolverines football head coach formally resolved a criminal case tied to a personal relationship that spiraled into public controversy. In a courtroom at Washtenaw County District Court, the 39-year-old coach entered no-contest pleas to two misdemeanor charges.

The agreement immediately reshaped the case. Prosecutors dropped three more serious counts, including a felony home invasion charge. The accusations stemmed from a December incident involving Moore’s former executive assistant, Paige Shiver. What had once threatened to drag on as a lengthy legal fight instead moved toward closure in a matter of minutes, shifting the focus from courtroom drama to the personal fallout still surrounding the former coach.

The Sherrone Moore plea deal centers on events from Dec. 8, 2025, when authorities say Moore entered Shiver’s apartment without permission after their relationship ended. Prosecutors said he used his phone to send threatening communications and trespassed at the residence in Pittsfield Township.

Under the agreement, Moore pleaded no contest to malicious use of a telecommunications device in a domestic relationship and to trespassing.

In exchange, prosecutors dismissed three other charges: felony home invasion, stalking, and breaking and entering.

Moore’s attorney, David Nacht, said the decision was made to avoid a drawn-out court process that could have kept the case alive for months.

“This resolution allows Sherrone to move forward without the shadow of more serious charges,” Nacht said outside the courthouse.

Sentencing is scheduled for April 17. Each misdemeanor carries a possible penalty of up to 93 days in jail, though legal observers expect probation to be the more likely outcome given Moore’s lack of prior criminal history.

The courtroom moment also carried a deeply personal dimension. Moore’s wife, Kelli Moore, sat beside him and held his hand as the plea was entered. The couple, married since 2015 and parents to three children, have largely kept a low profile since the scandal erupted late last year.

The case traces back to Moore’s two-year relationship with Shiver while she worked within the Michigan program. She later reported the relationship to university officials, prompting an internal investigation. Days later, on Dec. 10, 2025, Michigan dismissed Moore for cause.

Before the controversy, Moore’s coaching trajectory looked promising. He succeeded Jim Harbaugh as Michigan’s head coach in January 2024 and guided the Wolverines to a 10-3 record during the 2025 season. Following his dismissal, the program turned to veteran coach Kyle Whittingham as interim leadership while the school reassessed its direction.

Shiver’s employment with Michigan also came to an end recently. University officials confirmed her contract expired Feb. 28 and was not renewed. She has not commented publicly about the case.

For Moore, Friday’s plea deal does not erase the damage to his career. It does, however, bring legal clarity to a situation that has lingered for months, leaving the former coach to focus on rebuilding both his professional future and his private life.
